Targets Trinamool Congress over governance; expresses confidence ahead of results
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed strong confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the next government in West Bengal, stating that he would return to the state for the oath-taking ceremony after the election results are announced.
Addressing a high-energy rally in Barrackpore, located in North 24 Parganas district, Modi said that the “mood of the people” clearly indicates a shift in political direction. His remarks came on the final day of campaigning for the second and concluding phase of the assembly elections.
“Will return for oath-taking ceremony”
In a confident pitch to voters, the Prime Minister declared that he would revisit West Bengal soon after the results, scheduled to be announced on May 4, to attend the swearing-in ceremony of a BJP-led government.
The statement drew enthusiastic responses from supporters, signalling the party’s aggressive push to expand its footprint in the state.
Sharp attack on ruling party
During his address, Modi launched a strong critique of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of fostering what he described as “syndicate raj”, political violence, and administrative inefficiencies.
He alleged that governance under the current administration has led to economic challenges and law-and-order concerns, positioning the BJP as a viable alternative for development and stability.
High-stakes election battle
The West Bengal assembly elections are being closely watched as a key political contest with national implications. The BJP has been intensifying its campaign efforts in the state, aiming to consolidate its gains from previous elections and challenge the dominance of the TMC.
Political observers note that voter turnout, regional dynamics, and last-mile campaigning could play a decisive role in shaping the final outcome.
Strategic importance of West Bengal
West Bengal holds significant political and economic importance, making it a crucial battleground for national parties. A victory for the BJP would mark a major expansion in eastern India, while a win for the TMC would reinforce its regional stronghold.
Outlook ahead of results
With campaigning now concluded, attention shifts to the counting day on May 4. The results are expected to provide clarity on voter sentiment and the future political landscape of the state.
For investors and market watchers, political stability in key states like West Bengal can influence regional development, infrastructure projects, and business sentiment.
