Storm Activity Likely Across Multiple States While Heatwave Conditions Continue in Western India
Residents of Delhi-NCR may finally get temporary relief from rising temperatures as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across the national capital region on Monday.
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for New Delhi and surrounding NCR areas, warning residents about possible thunderstorms, lightning activity, strong winds and short-term weather disruptions during the day.
The expected weather shift comes after several days of warm and humid conditions across northern India and could bring a temporary cooling effect to the region.
Rain and Thunderstorm Activity Expected in Delhi-NCR
According to the IMD forecast, Delhi is likely to experience partly cloudy skies during the morning, gradually becoming generally cloudy by afternoon.
The weather department has predicted very light to light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds ranging between 30–40 kmph, with wind speeds potentially touching 50 kmph during peak storm activity.
Another spell of rainfall and thunderstorm activity may occur during the evening or nighttime hours.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to remain between 37°C and 39°C, while the minimum temperature may settle around 25°C to 27°C.
Meteorologists believe the rainfall could provide temporary relief from daytime heat, although humidity levels may remain elevated after the showers.
Northern States Likely to Witness Strong Storm Activity
Apart from Delhi-NCR, several northern states are also expected to witness unstable weather conditions over the next 24 hours.
Regions including Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds.
Uttarakhand may witness thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph, while Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive relatively lighter storm activity.
The IMD has also warned of isolated dust storm activity in parts of Rajasthan, where dry conditions continue prevailing in several districts.
Heavy Rainfall Warning Issued for Southern and Eastern India
The IMD has issued heavy rainfall alerts for parts of southern and eastern India as monsoon-related activity intensifies in some regions.
Heavy rain is likely over parts of:
- Kerala
- Tamil Nadu
- Puducherry
- Karaikal
- West Bengal
- Sikkim
Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of up to 40–50 kmph are also expected across eastern states including Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha.
Several coastal and southern regions including Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Maharashtra and parts of Karnataka are also likely to witness thunderstorm activity.
Telangana, Goa and Central India to See Weather Changes
The IMD forecast indicates that Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Goa may experience thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 30–40 kmph.
Weather experts believe the widespread thunderstorm activity across central and southern India is linked to changing atmospheric circulation patterns and moisture inflow from nearby water bodies.
Localized disruptions including waterlogging, traffic congestion and temporary power interruptions may occur in some urban regions experiencing intense thunderstorms.
Heatwave Conditions Persist in Gujarat and Rajasthan
Even as several regions prepare for rain and storm activity, western India continues facing heatwave conditions.
The IMD has warned that hot and humid weather is likely to persist across parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan during the week.
Coastal regions including Konkan and Goa may also continue experiencing uncomfortable humidity levels despite intermittent rainfall activity.
Meteorologists note that fluctuating weather conditions, including simultaneous heatwave and thunderstorm activity across different regions, are becoming increasingly common during seasonal transition periods.
Impact on Daily Life and Travel
The changing weather conditions could affect transportation, aviation and daily commuting across several cities.
Strong winds and thunderstorms may temporarily disrupt road traffic, flight schedules and outdoor activities, particularly during peak storm periods.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during lightning activity, avoid unnecessary outdoor exposure during storms and stay updated on local weather advisories.
